Abstract
Materials and methods for conferring geminivirus resistance to plants, and particularly to materials and methods for using CRISPR/Cas systems to confer resistance to geminiviruses to plants.
Claims45
A method for generating a plant cell having the potential for increased resistance to geminivirus infection, wherein the method comprises transforming a plant cell with (i) a first nucleic acid containing a sequence that encodes a Clustered Regularly Interspersed Short Palindromic Repeats-associated system (Cas) protein, and (ii) a second nucleic acid containing one or more Clustered Regularly Interspersed Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) RNA (crRNA) sequences and a trans-activating crRNA (tracrRNA) sequence targeted to one or more geminivirus sequences, such that the sequence encoding the Cas protein, the one or more crRNA sequences, and the tracrRNA sequence are stably integrated into the genome of the plant cell.

A plant, plant part, or plant cell that has increased resistance to geminivirus infection, wherein the genome of the plant, plant part, or plant cell comprises a first nucleic acid encoding a Cas protein, and a second nucleic acid containing one or more crRNA sequences and a tracrRNA sequence targeted to one or more geminivirus sequences.
