A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- a) a therapeutically effective amount of an enteroendocrine peptide secretion enhancing agent;
- b) an absorption inhibitor of the enteroendocrine peptide secretion enhancing agent;
- and
- c) a carrier.

A method for treating obesity or diabetes in an individual comprising non-systemically administering to the distal gastrointestinal tract of an individual in need thereof, a therapeutically effective amount of an enteroendocrine peptide secretion enhancing agent optionally formulated with a carrier.
