Abstract
Apparatus and methods related to riser joint connection are described. For example, some embodiments may contain a central coupler, a plurality of reaction collars, collar stoppers, collar caps, and C-rings, for connecting riser joints.
Claims20
An apparatus for riser joint connection, comprising:
- a central coupler;
- a plurality of reaction collars;
- a plurality of collar stoppers;
- a plurality of collar caps;
- and
- a plurality of C-rings.

A method for riser joint connection, comprising:
- mounting two C-rings into the upper and lower grooves of a reaction collar;
- sliding a collar cap and a reaction collar onto a first riser joint;
- mounting a collar stopper onto the first riser joint;
- repeating the above for a second riser joint to be connected with the first riser joint;
- aligning the two riser joints;
- inserting a central coupler that connects with a reaction collar and riser joint on both sides;
- torquing the reaction collar to a certain torque value, which will push the riser joint against the central coupler tightly, and fit the C-ring between the lower groove of the reaction collar and riser joint to a certain tightness;
- and
- torquing the collar cap to a certain torque value, which will fit the firing between the upper groove of the reaction collar and riser joint to a certain tightness.
