Abstract
One embodiment of the invention is a horizontal scaffold truss that has upper and lower horizontal scaffold members offset but fixedly joined with braces. Each upper and lower members have a connector positioned on each end of the respective lower and upper members, where at least one of the connectors is pivotally mounted on the respective lower or upper connector, and the connectors are engageable with an annular member positioned on a vertical scaffold member.

The combination of at least one vertical scaffold member and scaffold horizontal truss, said scaffold horizontal truss comprising an upper horizontal member and a lower horizontal member, each separated from the other but fixedly joined with at least one bracing member forming a truss frame, each horizontal member having a first and second end respectively,
- first connectors, configured to removably connect to a tubular scaffold vertical member at an annular member that is fixedly positioned on and extending outwardly from, said tubular scaffold vertical member, said first end of said lower and upper horizontal members having one of said first connectors attached thereon;
- a plurality of second connectors each configured to removably connect to a tubular scaffold vertical member at an annular member that is fixedly positioned on a tubular scaffold vertical member and extending outwardly from said tubular scaffold vertical member, said plurality of second connectors being pivotally attached on said second ends of said upper and said lower horizontal members whereby each second connector is pivotable in a horizontal plane with respect to said truss frame;
- each of said second connectors having a moveable latch member moving between a latched position and an unlatched position, whereby in said latched position, when said respective second connector is coupled to an annular member on a tubular vertical scaffold member, said latch member resists decoupling of said respective second connector from the annular member but said second connector remains pivotable with respect to said truss frame and said at least one tubular scaffold vertical member comprising a vertical member including a series of vertically spaced apart annular members positioned on said vertical member, each annular member extending outwardly from said vertical member.
A method of erecting a suspended scaffold platform to an existing scaffold structure having vertical scaffold members, comprising the steps of:
- providing a first and second horizontal scaffold truss member, each comprising an upper horizontal member and a lower horizontal member separated from the other but fixedly joined with at least one bracing member, forming, respectively a first and second truss frame, each horizontal member of each horizontal scaffold truss member having
- a first and second end respectively, first connectors, configured to removably connect to a tubular scaffold vertical member at an annular member that is fixedly positioned on and extending outwardly from said tubular scaffold vertical member, said first end of said lower and said upper horizontal members of said first and second horizontal scaffold truss members having one of said first connectors attached thereon;
- a plurality of second connectors each configured to removably connect to a tubular scaffold vertical member at an annular member that is fixedly positioned on and extending outwardly from, said scaffold vertical member, one of said second connectors being pivotally attached on each of said second ends of said upper and said lower horizontal members, whereby each of said second connectors is pivotable in a horizontal plane with respect to said associated truss frame;
- each of said second connectors having a moveable latch member moving between a latched position and an unlatched position, whereby in said latched position, when said respective second connector is coupled to an annular member on a tubular vertical scaffold member, said latch member resists decoupling of said respective second connector from the annular member, but said second connector remains pivotable with respect to said truss frame;
- said method further comprising the steps of coupling said first horizontal scaffold truss member to two annular members on a first tubular rigid vertical scaffold member of said existing scaffold structure, each of said two annular members coupled with one of said second connectors where each annular member extends outwardly from said tubular vertical scaffold member;
- moving each of said latch members on said second connectors of said first horizontal scaffold truss member to a latched position;
- pivoting said coupled first horizontal scaffold truss member about said second connectors on said first horizontal scaffold truss member to move said first ends of said horizontal members of said first horizontal scaffold truss member from a location proximal to the existing scaffold structure into a desired orientation distal to the existing scaffold structure;
- coupling said second horizontal scaffold truss member to two annular members on a second tubular vertical scaffold member of said existing scaffold structure, each of said two annular members coupled with one of said second connectors of said second horizontal scaffold truss member, where said annular members on said second tubular vertical scaffold member extends outwardly from said second tubular vertical scaffold member;
- moving said latch members on said second connectors on said second horizontal scaffold truss member to a latched position;
- pivoting said coupled second horizontal scaffold truss member horizontally about said second connectors on said second horizontal scaffold truss member to move said second ends of said horizontal members of said second horizontal scaffold truss member from a location proximal to the existing scaffold structure into a desired orientation distal to the existing scaffold structure;
- placing scaffold planking boards to create a working surface between said pivoted first and second horizontal scaffold truss members;
- coupling a third tubular vertical scaffold member to said first connectors of said first horizontal scaffold truss member;
- coupling a fourth tubular vertical scaffold member to said first connectors of said second horizontal scaffold truss member;
- supporting said third vertical scaffold member from an overhead structure;
- and
- supporting said fourth vertical scaffold member from an overhead structure.
