Foil bag, carbon containing nipple, nipple kit, carbon containing electrode, electrode kit, electrode-nipple system, furnace and method of operating the furnace

An electrode/nipple system, comprising:

• a carbon-containing nipple containing at least one nipple thread and selected from the group consisting of a cylindrical double-thread nipple and a double-conical double-thread nipple;
• at least one electrode box having a box thread, said carbon-containing nipple being screwed into said electrode box during a screwing in process;
• at least one of said nipple thread or said box thread having at least one inlet formed therein;
• and
• at least one adhesive container containing a liquid or pasty thermally and/or chemically curing adhesive for securing said electrode box to said carbon-containing nipple, during the screwing in process said adhesive container being at least partial destroyed in an area of a weakening area or a weakening line, and involving a release of said adhesive.

A method of operating an arc furnace, which comprises the steps of:

• reducing or eliminating falling leftover pieces of carbon-containing electrodes and nipples in metallurgical processes when melting steel or steel scrap, or when producing or extracting, recycling, or processing copper, silicon, phosphorus, calcium carbide, or other materials by the following steps of:
• providing a carbon-containing nipple containing at least one nipple thread and selected from the group consisting of a cylindrical double-thread nipple and a double-conical double-thread nipple;
• providing at least one electrode box having a box thread, the carbon-containing nipple being screwed into the electrode box during a screwing in process;
• providing at least one of the nipple thread or the box thread with at least one inlet formed therein;
• and
• providing at least one adhesive container containing a liquid or pasty thermally and/or chemically curing adhesive for securing the electrode box to the carbon-containing nipple, during the screwing in process the adhesive container being at least partial destroyed in an area of a weakening area or a weakening line, and involving a release of the adhesive.

A furnace selected from the group consisting of arc furnaces and ladle furnaces for producing, extracting, recycling, or processing copper, silicon, phosphorus, calcium carbide, or other materials, the furnace comprising:

• a carbon-containing nipple containing at least one nipple thread and selected from the group consisting of a cylindrical double-thread nipple and a double-conical double-thread nipple;
• at least one electrode box having a box thread, said carbon-containing nipple being screwed into said electrode box during a screwing in process;
• at least one of said nipple thread or said box thread having at least one inlet formed therein;
• and
• at least one adhesive container containing a liquid or pasty thermally and/or chemically curing adhesive for securing said electrode box to said carbon-containing nipple, during the screwing in process said adhesive container being at least partial destroyed in an area of a weakening area or a weakening line, and involving a release of said adhesive.

A method for producing, extracting, recycling or processing copper, silicon, phosphorus, calcium carbide, or other materials in a furnace selected from the group consisting of arc furnaces and ladle furnaces, which comprises the steps of:

• providing a nipple kit, containing:
• at least one carbon-containing nipple for carbon-containing electrodes, the carbon-containing nipple having at least one nipple thread with at least one inlet formed therein being a groove running across the nipple thread in a substantially perpendicular direction to the nipple thread;
• and
• at least one adhesive container disposed in the inlet, the adhesive container containing a liquid or pasty thermally and/or chemically curing adhesive for securing of an electrode/nipple connection, the adhesive container having at least one of at least one weakening area or at least one weakening line extending from one end of the adhesive container to an opposite end of the adhesive container and/or formed on a same side of the adhesive container;
• providing a carbon-containing electrode having a box thread;
• screwing the at least one carbon-containing nipple into the box thread of the carbon-containing electrode, the screwing step resulting in a destruction of the least one adhesive container thus involving a release of the liquid or pasty thermally and/or chemically curing adhesive;
• distributing a released adhesive during the screwing step over a surface that is larger than a surface covered by the inlet between the nipple thread and the box thread;
• and
• hardening the released adhesive at a given temperature in a range between room temperature and up to 250° C. over a time period of at least five minutes.
