Methods and apparatus for controlling wireless access points

A method, comprising:

• receiving, at an access point controller and from a wireless access point, a first signal, the first signal associated with establishing a first channel between the access point controller and the wireless access point;
• establishing, at the access point controller and based on the first signal, at least a portion of the first channel, the first channel having a first priority;
• receiving, at the access point controller and from the wireless access point, a second signal, the second signal associated with establishing a second channel between the access point controller and the wireless access point;
• establishing, at the access point controller and based on the second signal, at least a portion of the second channel, the second channel having a second priority different from the first priority;
• sending, from the access point controller to the wireless access point via the first channel, a first control packet such that the wireless access point receives the first control packet within a period of time after the first control packet is sent;
• and
• sending, to the wireless access point via the second channel, a second control packet such that the wireless access point receives the second control packet within a period of time after the second control packet is sent, the period of time after the first control packet is sent being shorter than the period of time after the second control packet is sent based on the first channel having the first priority and the second channel having the second priority.
