Method of providing information and electronic device implementing the same

An electronic device comprising:

• a database configured to store a fingerprint;
• a controller configured to extract a fingerprint from broadcasting contents and acquire content identification information on a stored fingerprint, which matches the extracted fingerprint, from the fingerprint database;
• a communication unit configured to transmit the content identification information to a first external device and receiving additional information related to the content identification information from the first external device;
• and
• a display unit configured to display the additional information.

A system for providing information, the system comprising:

• a communication unit configured to communicate with an external device;
• a database including at least one of a stored fingerprint according to each piece of content identification information, an offset, additional information, and log information;
• a content management unit for extracting a fingerprint from broadcasting contents, transmitting the extracted fingerprint to the external device through the communication unit, and managing whether the database is updated;
• an information provision unit for providing additional information corresponding to the content identification information to the external device through the communication unit;
• and
• an analysis unit for collecting log information from the external device through the communication unit and analyzing the log information.
