Abstract
A cubesat design includes selected subsystems for managing communications to other satellites and ground stations. In one embodiment, the subsystem includes a deployable antenna having compact size and low weight that reliably releases and detects an extended antenna after launch.
Claims10
A deployable antenna system for a cubesat, comprising:
- a containment space for two coiled antennae with at least one release door positioned to release one or more coiled antenna to form a linear antenna upon deployment in a specified angular relationship with at least one additional deployed antenna;
- and
- a detector for generating a signal that indicates a successfully deployed antenna after launch.
A cubesat communication system comprising:
- a deployable antenna containment module defining an antenna storage slot, a deployable linear antenna, and a hinged door, releaseably held in a first closed position by a latching pin;
- a control connector for releasing said latching pin to open said door and deploying said antenna;
- and
- a deployed antenna detector.
