Method and apparatus for processing texture

An apparatus for processing a texture, the apparatus comprising:

• a memory configured to store texture data of a texture mapped to pixels constituting a frame;
• and
• a controller configured to acquire texture position information in a texture image corresponding to pixel position information of the pixels, acquire texture classification information (TCI) representing a similarity between respective texture factors of two or more classified regions in the texture image based on the texture position information, determine an amount of texture data requested from the memory according to the TCI, and read texture data corresponding to the determined amount of texture data from the memory based on the texture position information.

A graphic processing apparatus comprising:

• a shader-core configured to perform pixel shading to determine colors of pixels constituting a frame;
• and
• a texture processor configured to receive a transmission request for pixel values corresponding to the pixels from the shader-core, acquire texture position information in a texture image corresponding to pixel position information of the pixels, acquire texture classification information (TCI) representing a similarity between respective texture factors of two or more classified regions in the texture image based on the texture position information, determine an amount of texture data requested from a memory according to the TCI, read texture data corresponding to the determined amount of texture data from the memory based on the texture position information, and generate the pixel values by using the read texture data.
