Abstract

It is determined that a first set of one or more blocks associated with a file system are to be freed. Each of the first set of blocks is associated with a block identifier. In response to a determination that the first set of blocks is to be freed, it is determined that a first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks to store the block identifiers that are associated with the first set of blocks. In response to a determination that the first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks, one or more data blocks are allocated to the first log. It is indicated that one or more block identifiers are to be removed from the first log and added to a second log. It is indicated that metadata associated with a second set of one or more blocks is to be updated.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

receiving one or more notifications that one or more blocks are to be freed;
in response to receiving the one or more notifications that the one or more blocks are to be freed,
allocating one or more data blocks to a first block log, wherein the one or more data blocks correspond to an amount of space sufficient to store block identifiers associated with the one or more blocks to freed;
determining that adding a block identifier to the first block log will cause a first subset of the first block log to reach a size threshold;
and
in response to determining that adding the block identifier to the first block log will cause the first subset of the first block log to reach the size threshold, incrementing a first count, wherein the first count indicates a number of subsets of the first block log that are to be sorted.

a non-transitory machine readable medium having program code embodied therewith, the program code to,
determine that a first set of one or more blocks associated with a file system is to be freed, wherein each of the first set of blocks is associated with a block identifier;

determine that a first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks to store the block identifiers that are associated with the first set of blocks;
in response to a determination that the first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks, allocate one or more data blocks to the first log;
indicate that one or more block identifiers are to be removed from the first log and added to a second log;
and
indicate that metadata associated with a second set of one or more blocks is to be updated.
