Abstract
In one embodiment of the invention, a server is disclosed including a main printed circuit board; a plurality of processors mounted to the main printed circuit board; and a memory system accessible to the plurality of processors. The memory system includes a plurality of expansion sockets mounted to the printed circuit board, and a plurality of server memory cards removeably plugged into the plurality of expansion sockets. Each server memory card includes a master controller, a plurality of slave controllers, and a plurality of replaceable daughter-memory-cards with read-writeable non-volatile memory.

A server comprising:
- a main printed circuit board;
- a plurality of processors mounted to the main printed circuit board;
- a memory system accessible to the plurality of processors, the memory system including
- a plurality of expansion sockets mounted to the printed circuit board,
- a plurality of server memory cards removeably plugged into the plurality of expansion sockets, each of the plurality of server memory cards including
- a baseboard printed circuit board having an edge connector, the edge connector coupled to one of the plurality of expansion sockets,
- a master controller coupled to the host edge connector over a host bus channel;
- a plurality of slave controllers coupled to the master controller over a plurality of memory bus channels,
- a first plurality of daughter card sockets mounted to the baseboard printed circuit board and coupled in communication respectively with the plurality of slave controllers, and
- a first plurality of replaceable daughter-memory-cards removeably plugged into the plurality of daughter-card sockets, each of the replaceable daughter-memory-cards including a first plurality of read-writeable non-volatile memory.
