Abstract
A spirit type level that may be used to plumb any vertical pole or post, may be used to horizontally set an object and may also be used to quickly and easily set a pipe at a selected slope of between 0 and 3 percent. The spirit type level of the invention includes a plurality of differently oriented spirit vials that are secured within the level body in a manner such that, if any one of the spirit vials become broken, or otherwise damaged, it can be easily replaced and the level need not be discarded. The spirit type level of the invention can be quickly and easily removably attached to the object to be leveled thereby freeing the hands of the user to position the object.
Claims20
A spirit level comprising a body having:
- (a) a central portion;
- (b) a first work piece engaging surface disposed within a first reference plane;
- (c) a second work piece engaging surface spaced apart from said first work piece engaging surface and disposed within a plane extending at a first acute angle with respect to said first reference plane;
- (d) a third work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at a second acute angle with respect to a second reference plane, said second reference plane extending substantially perpendicular to said first reference plane;
- and
- (e) a fourth work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at a third acute angle with respect to said second reference plane.
A spirit level comprising:
- (a) a central portion;
- (b) a first work piece engaging surface disposed within a first reference plane;
- (c) a second work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane spaced apart from said first work piece engaging surface and extending at an angle of approximately 1 percent with respect to said first reference plane;
- (d) a third work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at an angle of approximately 88.28 degrees with respect to said first work piece engaging surface;
- and
- (e) a fourth work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at an angle of approximately 88.85 degrees with respect to said first work piece engaging surface.
A spirit level comprising:
- (a) a central portion;
- (b) a first work piece engaging surface disposed within a first reference plane;
- (c) a second work piece engaging surface spaced apart from said first work piece engaging surface and disposed within a plane extending at a first acute angle with respect to said first reference plane;
- (d) a third work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at a second acute angle with respect to a second reference plane, said second reference plane extending substantially perpendicular to said first reference plane;
- (e) a fourth work piece engaging surface disposed within a plane extending at a third acute angle with respect to said second reference plane;
- (f) a first spirit vial mounted within said central portion of said body, said first spirit vial having a longitudinal center line disposed within a plane that is substantially parallel to said first reference plane;
- and
- (g) a second spirit vial mounted within said central portion of said body, said second spirit vial having a longitudinal center line disposed within a plane that is substantially parallel to said second reference plane.
