Abstract
A fluoropolymer fiber exhibiting improved wear properties prepared from a blend of fluoropolymer particles and aluminum oxide particles. The concentration of aluminum oxide particles in the blend ranges from between about 0.1% to about 5%, with a specific concentration of 0.1% to 1.0%. The fluoropolymer fibers may be dispersion spun, melt spun or paste extruded.
Claims20
A fluoropolymer fiber comprising a blend of aluminum oxide particles and a fluoropolymer.
A fluoropolymer fiber comprising:
- 95% to 99.9% by weight of a fluoropolymer selected from the group consist of polytetrafluoroethylene, perfluoroalkoxy, fluorinated ethylene propylene, ethylenetetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride and combinations therefore, and
- 0.1% to 5% by weight of aluminum oxide.
A fluoropolymer fiber comprising:
- 95% to 99.9% by weight of fluoropolymer particles, and
- 0.1% to 5% by weight of aluminum oxide particles having an average particle size of about 10 microns or less,
- wherein the aluminum oxide particles impart an improved wear rate to the fluoropolymer fiber relative to a fluoropolymer fiber composed of 100% fluoropolymer fibers.
