Silica protected pigments for use in artist media

A method of manufacturing colored particles for use in artist color media, comprising

• (a) providing a core silica particle having pore channels formed therein,
• (b) first loading at least one colorant into the pore channels of the particle, and
• (c) second depositing a silica layer over the pore channels using fluorosilicic acid.

A method of manufacturing colored particles for use in artist color media comprising:

• (a) providing a porous silica particle having pore channels formed therein, and
• (b) depositing a silica layer over the pore channels using a fluorosilicic acid where a colorant is present in the fluorosilicic acid.

A pigment particle for use in artist color media, comprising

• (a) a substantially nonporous solid core containing silica, the substantially nonporous solid core having a surface and having at least one colorant is present on at least part of the surface, and
• (b) a nonporous solid silica layer covering the substantially nonporous solid core, wherein the silica layer is deposited using fluorosilicic acid.

A method of manufacturing colored particles for use in artist color media comprising.

• (a) providing a silica particle having a substantially nonporous outer surface,
• (b) first loading at least one colorant onto at least part of the outer surface of the silica particle, and
• (c) second depositing a substantially nonporous solid silica layer over the outer surface of the silica particle, wherein the silica layer is deposited using fluorosilicic acid.

A method of manufacturing colored particles for use in artist color media comprising:

• (a) providing a substantially nonporous silica particle, and
• (b) depositing a silica layer over the silica particle using a fluorosilicic acid where a colorant is present in the fluorosilicic acid.
