This invention discloses a sulfur free and ZnO free cross-linking composition comprising a multifunctional phosphine crosslinking agent and halobutyl polymers or halogen containing polymers.

A cured, sulfur free and ZnO free compound comprising:
- polymer selected from the group consisting of halobutyl polymers, halogen containing polymers, and mixtures thereof, and crosslinked with multifunctional phosphine crosslinking agents.
A process for preparing a compound, the process comprising
- reacting polymer selected from the group consisting of halobutyl polymers and halogen containing polymers
- with multifunctional phosphine crosslinking agent
- to cross-link the polymers.
