Abstract
Humans have utilized mushrooms and mycelium for thousands of years. Currently mycelium is consumed at large in the form of dried powders in supplements. This patent describes a method for preparing a probiotic beverage containing living mycelium. This method allows the delivery of living mycelium through a water-sweetener-flavor base. Due to the living form of the mycelium and the consumable substrate this method is able to provide the beneficial properties of mycelium without degradation of the mycelium's beneficial properties.
Claims20
A method for preparing a probiotic beverage containing living mycelium, comprising the steps of:
- providing a sterilized beverage preparation area;
- providing sterilized beverage preparation equipment;
- introducing a volume of water into said sterilized beverage preparation equipment;
- introducing a volume of a sweetener base into said volume of water to create a volume of sweetener and water solution, said sweetener base particularly well-suited for metabolizing mycelia, said sweetener base introduction creating a volume of sweetener and water solution;
- introducing a volume of flavoring additive into said solution;
- mixing flavored substrate until a desired flavoring is achieved;
- sterilizing said solution, after the step of combining flavor with sweetener water base to create a solution substrate;
- heat said solution to optimal colonization temperature for mycelium, said optimal inoculation temperature varying depending upon the particular mycelium species;
- introduce mycelium to said sterile solution substrate;
- incubating solution and mycelium at a predetermined incubation temperature and time, to achieve a predetermined desired colonization;
- and
- cooling said incubated solution, once optimal desired colonization has been reached, to a temperature within the range of approximately 37 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit (2.78 to 13.33 degrees Celsius) until production of mycelium biomass is adequately stalled to maintain an optimal saturation level, said optimal saturation level dependent upon a desired final product density.
A method for preparing a health beverage containing living mycelium, comprising the steps of:
- providing a sterilized beverage preparation area;
- providing sterilized beverage preparation equipment;
- introducing a volume of water into said sterilized beverage preparation equipment;
- introducing a volume of a sweetener base into said volume of water to create a volume of sweetener solution;
- said sweetener solution is then sterilized and subsequently combined with mycelium;
- said mycelium and sweetener solution is then incubated at species specific temperature;
- simultaneously flavor base is created and then sterilized in a separate vessel;
- the mycelium sweetener solution is then mixed with flavor base;
- and
- cooling said flavor mycelium sweetener solution, to a temperature within the range of approximately 37 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit (2.78 to 13.33 degrees Celsius) until production of mycelium biomass is adequately stalled to maintain an optimal saturation level, said optimal saturation level dependent upon a desired final product density.
