Abstract
A ganged shielding cage with improved heat transfer capabilities is disclosed. The cage has a plurality of module-receiving openings, or bays arranged in serial, widthwise order. Each such opening is separated from an adjacent opening by an intervening wall that defines, at least partially, a continuous passage, extending lengthwise and communicating with the front and rear portions of the cage. This passage permits air flow to occur between adjacent openings of the cages and between adjacent modules held thereby.
Claims15
A shielding cage assembly with improved thermal transfer characteristics, the assembly comprising:
- a cage body, the cage body including a plurality of walls defining at least two adjacent openings in the cage body, the openings extending lengthwise therewithin between opposing front and rear ends of the cage body and being separated by and partly defined by an intervening wall;
- and
- each opening being dimensioned to receive an electronic module therein such that sidewalls of two adjacent electronic modules inserted into the openings are in heat transfer proximity to the intervening wall;
- wherein the intervening wall includes a heat transfer passage therein, the heat transfer passage defining a lengthwise space between the two adjacent electronic modules, the heat transfer passage permitting cooling fluid flow therethrough.
The shielding cage assembly of claim 11, wherein one of the leg members includes a least one bend therein that directs a portion of the leg member away from a side surface of a module inserted into the cage assembly to define a space therebetween.
A shielding cage assembly with improved thermal transfer characteristics, comprising:
- a cage body, the cage body including a plurality of walls defining a plurality of module-receiving openings in the cage body, the openings extending lengthwise therewithin between opposing front and rear ends of the cage body and configured to receive single electronic modules therein, the openings being separated from each other by intervening wall portions and extending lengthwise between the front and rear ends such that sidewalls of two adjacent electronic modules inserted into the openings make heat transfer contact with the intervening wall portion, at least one of the intervening wall portions including a heat transfer passage disposed therein, the heat transfer passage defining a lengthwise passage between the two adjacent electronic modules between the front and rear ends of the shielding cage assembly and permitting cooling fluid flow therethrough.
