Money Transfers by Residents of a Controlled Facility

A method comprising:

• receiving, by an agent device, authorization information from a controlled facility, wherein the authorization information identifies entities that a resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to and entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• receiving, by the agent device, a request to initiate a financial transaction, wherein at least one party to the financial transaction is a resident of the controlled facility;
• determining, by the agent device, whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction based on authorization information, wherein determining whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction includes:
• determining whether a party that is to receive funds from the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to;
• and
• determining whether a party that is to provide funds to the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• and
• initiating, by the agent device, the financial transaction in response to a determination that the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction.

An apparatus comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations that include:
• receiving authorization information from a controlled facility, wherein the authorization information identifies entities that a resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to and entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• receiving a request to initiate a financial transaction at an agent device, wherein at least one party to the financial transaction is a resident of the controlled facility;
• determining whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction based on the authorization information, wherein determining whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction includes:
• determining whether a party that is to receive funds from the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to;
• and
• determining whether a party that is to provide funds to the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• and
• initiating the financial transaction in response to a determination that the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction.

A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations that include:

• receiving, by an agent device, authorization information from a controlled facility, wherein the authorization information identifies entities that a resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to and entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• receiving, by the agent device, a request to initiate a financial transaction, wherein at least one party to the financial transaction is a resident of the controlled facility;
• determining, by the agent device, whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction based on authorization information, wherein determining whether the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction includes:
• determining whether a party that is to receive funds from the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to transfer funds to;
• and
• determining whether a party that is to provide funds to the resident in connection with the financial transaction corresponds to one of the entities that the resident of the controlled facility is authorized to receive funds from;
• and
• initiating, by the agent device, the financial transaction in response to a determination that the resident is authorized to participate in the financial transaction.
