Abstract
Embodiments are disclosed in which an algorithm that updates or rewrites one or more formulas when a table is transposed in an application. In certain embodiments the formula is rewritten so as to preserve the functionality of the formula with respect to the transposed table. In certain embodiments, a notification may be provided that a formula is changed or not changed in response to the table transposition event.
Claims25
A processor-implemented method for rewriting formulas, comprising:
- upon receiving a transpose instruction, transposing a table within a computer application to generate a transformed table;
- evaluating one or more formulas for arguments referencing the table;
- if arguments referencing the table are present in the one or more formulas, rewriting some or all of the formulas to instead reference corresponding cells or a subset of corresponding cells within the transposed table.
A non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium encoding processor-executable routines, wherein the routines, when executed by a processor cause acts to be performed comprising:
- transposing a table displayed on an application canvas in response to a transpose command;
- displaying one or both of:
- a change notification proximate to updated formulas that were updated in response to the table transposition;
- or
- a notification proximate to formulas that were not updated in response to the table transposition.
A processor-based system, comprising:
- a display;
- a memory storing one or more routines;
- and
- a processing component configured to execute the one or more routines stored in the memory, wherein the one or more routines, when executed by the processing component, cause acts to be performed comprising:
- displaying a table object on a canvas of a spreadsheet application, wherein the table object comprises a plurality of cells arranged in rows and columns;
- transposing the table object in response to a received input to generate a transposed table object, wherein transposing the table object comprises interchanging the rows and columns of the table object;
- in response to the transposition of the table object, evaluating a formula for arguments referencing the table object;
- based on the evaluation, performing one or more of:
- rewriting the formula to perform the same with respect to the transposed table object as the formula performed with the table object;
- displaying a notification proximate to the formula that conveys the status of the formula with respect to the transposition of the table object.
A processor-implemented method for rewriting formulas, comprising:
- identifying one or more arguments in a formula that reference a table in a spreadsheet application that has been transposed to generate a transposed table;
- performing one or both of;
- updating the formula to maintain the function of the formula after transposition of the table;
- or
- displaying a notification regarding the status of the formula after transposition of the table.
A non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium encoding processor-executable routines, wherein the routines, when executed by a processor cause acts to be performed comprising:
- receiving a transpose instruction and, in response, transposing a table displayed on an application canvas to generate a transformed table;
- for a first set of formulas that reference the table, updating each respective formula so as to maintain the functionality of the formula after the table is transposed;
- and
- for a second set of formulas, displaying a first notification proximate to each respective formula indicating that the respective formula was not updated in response to the table being transposed.
