Card based package for distributing electronic media and services

A wrap descriptor embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, wherein the wrap descriptor is arranged to define the structure, layout, content and behaviors of a multiplicity of components arranged in a set of cards suitable for display on a computer display.

A run-time environment, comprising:

• a wrap descriptor (i) arranged to define the structure, layout and content of a set of cards suitable for display on a computer display separately from their presentation and (ii) including a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor being arranged to define the content, structure and layout of an associated one of the cards of the set;
• and
• a runtime viewer arranged to render a wrap instance based on the wrap descriptor, the wrap instance including the set of cards defined by the card descriptors.

A wrap descriptor embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap descriptor being arranged to define a structure, layout and content of a set of cards suitable for display on a display device separately from their presentation, the wrap descriptor comprising a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor being arranged to define the content, structure and layout of an associated one of the cards, wherein each card descriptor includes at least one component description, each component description defining selected content and attributes of an associated component, wherein the attributes associated with a first one of the components includes:

• a behavior declaration that identifies a behavior associated with the component;
• and
• at least one style attribute that indicates a style associated with the content of the component.

A wrap descriptor embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap descriptor being arranged to define the structure, layout and content of a set of cards suitable for display on a computer display separately from their presentation, the wrap descriptor comprising a trigger component descriptor defining selected content and trigger behavior of an associated trigger component, the trigger behavior being arranged to trigger an action in response to a triggering event that occurs while an associated card is displayed in a wrap runtime instance rendered based on the wrap descriptor.

A wrap runtime instance comprising:

• a plurality of cards, each card having behavior and at least one component;
• and
• wherein at least some of the components are active components, each active component having associated content and at least one associated component behavior that is activated in response to the detection of an event, wherein the component behavior is not a navigational behavior among cards within the wrap runtime instance, and is not a link to an external item.

A method of rendering content on a computing device in the form of a set of cards using a runtime viewer executing on the computing device, the method comprising:

• processing a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the set of cards to generate a document object model suitable for rendering the set of cards, whereby the wrap descriptor processing occurs in the runtime viewer executing on the computing device;
• and
• rendering the cards on a display associated with the computing device from the document object model.

A method of rendering a wrap package of cards, the method comprising:

• requesting and receiving a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the wrap package of cards;
• and
• creating a runtime instance of the wrap package on the requesting device based on the wrap descriptor.

A method of rendering content on a computing device in the form of a wrapped package of cards, the method comprising:

• in response to a request for the wrap package, generating a document object model that defines the cards based on a wrap descriptor that defines the content of the wrap package, the wrap descriptor including a set of card descriptors, each card descriptor being arranged to define the content, structure and layout of an associated card in the wrap package respectively;
• and
• rendering the wrap package of cards on a display associated with the computing device from the document object model.

A wrap package of cards embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap package comprising a multiplicity of cards suitable for display on a computer display, each card having at least one associated card navigational behavior and at least one component, each component having associated content, the card navigational behaviors being arranged to permit the wrap package of cards to be browsed on a mobile device by swipe browsing in a first linear direction, wherein for any particular computer display, a displayed card frame size and aspect ratio is the same for each of the cards in the wrap package, the multiplicity of cards including:

• a first set of cards, wherein all of the content associated with each card in the first set of the cards is arranged to be displayed within the card frame such that scrolling is not required to view any of the associated card content;
• and
• a gallery card having a plurality of gallery items, wherein the gallery items associated with the gallery card are not all arranged to be simultaneously viewed within the card frame, wherein the gallery card is arranged to be scrolled in a second linear direction that is different than the first linear direction to facilitate viewing different gallery items.
