Abstract
Systems and methods are provides for displaying a second window for a multi-screen device in response to opening the device. The window stack can change based on the change in the orientation of the device. The system can receive an orientation change that transitions the device from a closed state to an open state. A previously created, but inactive, window in the stack can be displayed on one of the two or more displays comprising the device when opened. The previously created window become active to be displayed on the second of the displays after the device is opened.

A non-transitory computer readable medium, having stored thereon, computer-executable instructions executable by a processor, the computer-executable instructions causing the processor to execute a method for managing a window stack for a multi-display device, the computer-executable instructions comprising:
- instructions to create the window stack, wherein the window stack is a data structure representing a logical arrangement of active and inactive windows for open applications execution on the multi-display device, wherein the window stack is stored as part of a framework of an operating system, wherein the window stack provides a representation of windows or display objects to the user, wherein a desktop is a display object, wherein the multi-display device is in a closed state, wherein, in the closed state, a first display is active, and wherein, when in the closed state, the window stack has a first portion that represents only a first display, wherein a first window is represented in the first portion of the window stack;
- instructions to receive an orientation change in the multi-display device, wherein the orientation change causes the multi-display device to transition from the closed state to an open state, and wherein, in the open state, both the first display and a second display are active;
- instructions to determine that the first window should be displayed on the second display;
- after determining the first window should be displayed on the second display, instructions to:
- resize and reorient the first window to display on the second display;
- display the first window on the second display;
- display a second window on the first display, wherein the second window is inactive in the closed state, wherein the composite display occupies substantially all of the at least the two or more touch sensitive displays, and wherein the first display and second display are portions of the composite display;
- and
- modify the window stack to add a second portion associated with the second display to the first portion associated with the first display, wherein the first window is associated with the second portion and the second window is associated with the first portion.
A device comprising:
- at least two displays;
- a memory;
- a processor in communication with the memory and each of the at least two displays, the processor operable to:
- provide a composite display, wherein the composite display comprises a second touch sensitive display in a closed state, wherein a first window is displayed in the composite display in the closed state;
- create a window stack, wherein the window stack is a data structure representing a logical arrangement of active and inactive windows for open applications execution on the multi-display device, wherein the window stack is stored as part of a framework of an operating system, wherein the window stack provides a representation of windows or display objects to the user, wherein the window stack has a first portion that represents only the first touch sensitive display, wherein a first window is represented in the first portion of the window stack;
- receive an orientation change in the multi-display device, wherein the orientation change causes the multi-display device to transition from the closed state to an open state, wherein, in the open state, the composite display comprises a first portion associated with the first touch sensitive display and a second portion associated with a second touch sensitive display;
- in response to the orientation change, determine the first window is displayed in the first portion of the composite display and a second window is displayed in the second portion of the composite display;
- in response to the orientation change, display the first window on the first touch sensitive display;
- and
- in response to the orientation change, resize, reorient, and display the second window on the second touch sensitive display, wherein the second window is inactive during the closed state;
- in response to the orientation change, modify the window stack to add a second portion associated with the second touch sensitive display to the first portion associated with the first touch sensitive display, wherein the first window is associated with the first portion and the second window is associated with the second portion.
A method for presenting a display for a multi-display device, the method comprising:
- providing a composite display that spans at least a portion of a first touch sensitive display when the multi-display device is in a closed state;
- creating a window stack, wherein the window stack is a data structure representing a logical arrangement of active and inactive windows for open applications execution on the multi-display device, wherein the window stack is stored as part of a framework of an operating system, wherein the window stack provides a representation of windows or display objects to the user, wherein the window stack has a first portion that represents only a first touch sensitive display when the multi-display device is in a closed state, wherein a first window is represented in the first portion of the window stack;
- indicating a first window at a top of the window stack when the device is in the closed state;
- receiving an orientation change for the multi-display device, wherein the orientation change is a transition from the closed state to an open state;
- changing the composite display to span at least a portion of the first touch sensitive display and a second touch sensitive display of the multi-display device, wherein a first portion of the composite display is associated with the first touch sensitive display and a second portion of the composite display is associated with the second touch sensitive display;
- determining that the first window is associated with the first portion of the composite display;
- determining that a second window is associated with the second portion of the composite display;
- modifying the second window to be displayed in the second portion of the composite display;
- modifying the window stack to add a second portion associated with the second display to the a first portion associated with the first touch sensitive display;
- determining that the first window is at the top of the window stack in the first portion of the composite display;
- determining the second window is at the top of the window stack in the second portion of the composite display;
- modifying the window stack to associate the first window with the first portion and the second window with the second portion;
- displaying the first window on the first touch sensitive display;
- and
- resizing, reorientating, and displaying the second window on the second touch sensitive display.
