Abstract
A variety of data structures, components, runtime viewers and methods are described for integrating external content into wrapped packages of cards. Each card may selectively include media content, and a palette of application functionality and/or supporting e-commerce related services. In some aspects a “widget” construct may be provided in one or more of the cards. The widget provides a mechanism for seamlessly integrating external content into the wrap package. Widgets can be used to provide the wrap with a wide variety of different content, functionality and/or services.
Claims36
A runtime instance of a wrap package of cards embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap package comprising a plurality cards arranged to be individually viewed on a display screen in one or more linear sequences, the runtime instance being created by a runtime viewer executing on a processing unit associated with the display screen, based at least in part on a wrap descriptor that includes a widget descriptor, wherein:
- a first one of the cards includes an internal frame, wherein the content of the internal frame is received from an external source identified in the widget descriptor at runtime when the instance is created.
A wrap descriptor embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap descriptor arranged to define the structure, layout and content of a set of cards that together constitute a wrap package, the cards being suitable for display on a computer display, the wrap descriptor including a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor arranged to define the structure, layout and content of an associated card, wherein a first one of the card descriptors has a first associated card and includes a widget descriptor arranged to define a widget intended to provide an internal frame within the first card arranged to display content at runtime from an external source that is not defined by the card descriptor, the widget descriptor including:
- a source identifier that identifies the source from which content associated with the widget is to be obtained;
- and
- at least one parameter arranged to be passed to the source when a call is made to the source to deliver the content to the internal frame.
A wrap descriptor embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the wrap descriptor arranged to define the structure, layout and content of a set of cards that together constitute a wrap package, the cards being suitable for display on a computer display, the wrap descriptor including a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor arranged to define the structure, layout and content of an associated card, wherein a first one of the card descriptors includes a widget descriptor that defines a widget defining an internal frame within an associated card arranged to display content at runtime from an external source that is not defined by the card descriptor when the associated first card is rendered.
A rendering engine embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, the rendering engine configure to generate a wrap package instance, including a set of cards, to be rendered on a computing device, the rendering engine generating the wrap package engine by:
- obtaining a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the set of cards of the wrap package, the wrap descriptor including a widget descriptor associated with a first one of the cards;
- creating the wrap package instance based on the wrap descriptor at the computing device, wherein the wrap instance includes the set of cards;
- creating an internal frame within the first card, the size and position of the internal frame being defined by the widget descriptor,
- obtaining an HTML document to be rendered in the internal frame from an external source identified in the widget descriptor;
- and
- rendering the wrap package instance, including the HTML document in the internal frame within the first card, on the computing device.
A runtime viewer, embedded in a tangible computer readable medium, for rendering content on a computing device in the form of a set of cards by:
- processing a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the set of cards to generate a document object model suitable for rendering the set of cards in the runtime viewer, the wrap descriptor including a plurality of card descriptors and a first one of the card descriptors including a widget descriptor that identifies a component of the first card as a widget component, wherein the wrap descriptor processing occurs in the runtime viewer executing on the computing device.
A runtime viewer of 18, further configure to process the widget descriptor by:
- (i) creating an internal frame in the first card, and
- (ii) calling a source identified to the widget descriptor to obtain content to be rendered in the internal frame;
- and
- (iii) rendering the first card on a display associated with the computing device from the document object model.
A method of creating a wrap package instance to be rendered on a computing device, the wrap package instance including a set of cards, the method comprising, at the computing device:
- obtaining a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the set of cards, the wrap descriptor including a widget descriptor associated with a first one of the cards;
- creating a wrap package instance based on the wrap descriptor at the computing device, wherein the wrap instance includes the set of cards, each card having associated content;
- creating an internal frame within the first card, the size and position of the internal frame being defined by the widget descriptor;
- obtaining an HTML document to be rendered in the internal frame from an external source identified in the widget descriptor, and
- rendering the wrap package instance on the computing device.
A method of rendering content on a computing device in the form of a set of cards using a runtime viewer executing on the computing device, the method comprising:
- processing a wrap descriptor that defines the structure, layout and content of the set of cards to generate a document object model suitable for rendering the set of cards in the runtime viewer, the wrap descriptor including a plurality of card descriptors and a first one of the card descriptors including a widget descriptor that identifies a component of the first card as a widget component, wherein the wrap descriptor processing occurs in the runtime viewer executing on the computing device;
- and
- when the widget descriptor is processed,
- (ii) creating an internal frame in the first card, and
- (ii) calling a source identified to the widget descriptor to obtain content to be rendered in the internal frame;
- and
- rendering the first card on a display associated with the computing device from the document object model.
A method, comprising:
- providing a runtime viewer for use on a computing device;
- providing a wrap package descriptor to the computing device, the wrap package descriptor defining:
- (i) a structure, layout and content for a set of cards that together constitute a wrap package which corresponds to the wrap package descriptor,
- (ii) a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor arranged to define a structure, layout and content of an associated card, and
- (iii) a first one of the card descriptors including a widget descriptor that defines a widget specifying an internal frame within an associated card;
- and
- configuring the runtime viewer to generate a runtime instance of the wrap package on a display associated with the computing device by processing the wrap package descriptor, including the widget descriptor, so that content from an external source is rendered within the internal frame of the associated card.
