Abstract
An optical transceiver that installs an optical modulator with the Mach-Zehnder type and made of primarily semiconductor materials, and an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) is disclosed. The EDFA and the MZ modulator, in addition to a wavelength tunable laser diode, an intelligent coherent receiver, and a polarization maintaining splitter, are installed within a compact case following the standard of CFP2.
Claims15
An optical transceiver that generates an output optical signal and receives an input optical signal, comprising:
- an optical source for generating a continuous wave (CW) light;
- an optical splitter for splitting the CW light into two portions as maintaining a polarization of the CW light;
- an optical modulator for modulating one of the portions of the CW light split by the optical splitter and outputting a modulated optical signal;
- an optical receiver for interfering between the input optical signal and the another of the portions of the CW light;
- and
- an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) for amplifying the modulated optical signal generated by the optical modulator and outputting the output optical signal.
