Abstract
Device which indicates wound exudate loading within a wound dressing.
Claims18
A device which indicates wound exudate loading within a wound dressing, the device comprising a first composition which transforms from a first state to a second state and a second composition which dissolves upon contact with the wound exudate and which forces the transformation of the first composition from the first state to the second state upon contact therewith.
A device which indicates wound exudate loading within a wound dressing comprising a pH-dependent moisture indicating means and a means of generating ions, wherein contact between the wound exudate and the means of generating ions results in a solution loaded with ions which interacts with the indicating means to cause a visual change.
17-19. (canceled)
A method of monitoring loading of a wound dressing by a wound exudate, comprising the steps of,
- providing a wound dressing having a first soluble component and a second component in a first state prior to contact with the wound exudate;
- orientating the wound dressing in a wound so as to receive wound exudate and solubilise the soluble component;
- and
- identifying a change in the second component after solubilising the first component, thereby indicating that the wound dressing in saturated at the location of the soluble component.
