Bone Implants

A bone implant comprising a body elongated a longitudinal axis between a first end of the body and a second end of the body, the body comprising a rounded exterior surface portion disposed proximal to the first end and having a rounded cross-section transverse to the longitudinal axis;

• a tip disposed proximal to the first end of the body;
• a head disposed proximal to the second end of the body and comprising a support surface oriented toward the first end of the body;
• an anchor having a support surface mateable with the support surface of the head and comprising a sharpened projection orientable toward the first end of the body;
• a bore extending through at least a portion of the body along the longitudinal axis and opening through the tip;
• a window disposed along the body and forming an opening extending from the bore through the rounded exterior surface portion;
• and a thread winding around at least a portion of the rounded exterior surface portion.

A bone implant comprising an body elongated along a longitudinal axis and having a frustoconical shape defined by a smaller base at a first end of the body and a larger base at a second end of the body spaced along the longitudinal axis from the first end of the body, the body comprising a rounded exterior surface portion disposed proximal to the first end and having a rounded cross-section transverse to the longitudinal axis;

• a head disposed at the second end of the body and comprising driving notches disposed along the edge of the head and a semi-spherical surface mating surface defining a first diameter;
• a ferrule comprising a socket having a semi-spherical mating surface defining a second diameter and a flared base defining a third diameter, with the first diameter and the second diameter substantially equal and the third diameter larger than the first diameter, and with the ferrule mountable to the head in a range of angles with a portion of the semi-spherical surface mating surface of the head in contact with a portion of the semi-spherical surface mating surface of the socket;
• a tip disposed at the first end of the body and comprising a cutting edge oriented at an angle to the longitudinal axis;
• a bore extending completely through the head, the body, and the tip along the longitudinal axis, with threads disposed on a wall of the bore proximal to the head;
• a cylindrical thread wrapping around a portion of rounded exterior surface portion of the body from the first end of the body toward the second end of the body;
• a first array of windows through the rounded exterior surface portion of the body, each of which opens into the wall of the bore along a first line parallel to the longitudinal axis;
• and a second array of windows through the rounded exterior surface portion of the body, each of which opens into the wall of the bore along a second line parallel to the longitudinal axis, with the second line angularly offset about the longitudinal axis from the second line and the windows of the second array longitudinally offset along the longitudinal axis from the windows of the first array.
