Abstract
A rice hybrid designated HR140003 is disclosed. Seeds of rice hybrid HR140003, the plants of rice hybrid HR140003, and methods for producing a rice plant by crossing the hybrid HR140003 with a plant of the same genotype, or rice plant not of the same genotype, are also disclosed. Methods of growing and producing blends of rice seeds including seeds of rice hybrid HR140003, are disclosed.
Claims33
A hybrid rice seed HR140003, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-121601.
A method of introducing one or more desired traits into rice designated HR140003, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing an HR140003 plant, from which a representative sample of seed was deposited in the ATCC under the Budapest Treaty (Accession No. PTA-121601, with a plant of another rice line that comprises a desired trait, to produce progeny plants, wherein the desired trait(s) is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease and viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait(s) to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) backcrossing the selected progeny plants with the HR140003 plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait(s);
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait(s).
A method of producing a hybrid rice seed, wherein the method comprises crossing HR140003 plants that are genetically modified to add a desired trait, with a different rice plant and harvesting the resultant hybrid rice seed.
