Abstract
An optical network includes an optical cable arrangement including optical fibers that define optical lines; an indexing terminal disposed at an intermediate location along the optical cable arrangement; a splitter terminal disposed external of the indexing terminal; and an output cable. The optical lines are indexed at the indexing terminal so that at least one of the optical lines drops off at the indexing terminal. The output cable optically couples the optical line that drops off at the indexing terminal to an input of an optical splitter at the splitter terminal.
Claims28
An optical network comprising:
- an optical cable arrangement including a plurality of optical fibers that define first optical lines and second optical lines, the first optical lines being indexed in a first indexing direction along the optical cable arrangement, the second optical lines being indexed in a second indexing direction along the optical cable arrangement, the second direction being different from the first direction;
- an indexing terminal disposed at an intermediate location along the optical cable arrangement, the first and second optical lines of the optical cable arrangement being indexed at the indexing terminal so that at least one of the first optical lines and at least one of the second optical lines drop off at the indexing terminal, the indexing terminal including a first cable port, a second cable port, and a third cable port, the first and second optical lines that drop off being routed to the third cable port while a remainder of the first and second optical lines are routed between the first and second cable ports;
- a splitter terminal disposed external of the indexing terminal, the splitter terminal defining a network output port and a subscriber output port, the splitter terminal including an optical splitter having first outputs directed to the network output port and having an additional output directed to the subscriber output port;
- and
- an output cable including at least a first optical fiber and a second optical fiber, the first optical fiber of the output cable optically coupling the first optical line that drops off at the indexing terminal to an input of the optical splitter at the splitter terminal, and the second optical fiber of the output cable optically coupling the second optical line that drops off at the indexing terminal to the input of the optical splitter at the splitter terminal.
An optical network comprising:
- an optical cable arrangement including a plurality of optical fibers that define first optical lines, the first optical lines being indexed in a first indexing direction along the optical cable arrangement;
- a plurality of indexing terminals disposed along the optical cable arrangement so that the first optical lines pass through the indexing terminal, wherein a plurality of the first optical lines drop off at each indexing terminal;
- a first of the indexing terminals including a first cable port, a second cable port, and a third cable port, wherein the first optical lines of the optical cable arrangement are received at the first cable port and are indexed at the second cable port, and wherein the first optical lines that drop off are routed to the third cable port;
- an output cable extending from a first end to a second end, the first end being coupled to the third cable port of the first indexing terminal, the output cable including a plurality of optical fibers that are optically coupled to the first optical lines that dropped off at the first indexing terminal, the drop lines being separately terminated by ruggedized optical connectors at the second end of the output cable;
- and
- a splitter terminal disposed external of the first indexing terminal, the splitter terminal defining an input port, a network output port, and a subscriber output port, the splitter terminal housing an optical splitter;
- wherein the ruggedized optical connector terminating a first of the drop lines is received at the input port so that the first drop line is directed to an input of the optical splitter, and wherein a plurality of first outputs of the optical splitter are directed to the network output port;
- and wherein an additional output of the optical splitter is directed to the subscriber output port.
An optical network comprising:
- an optical cable arrangement including a plurality of optical fibers that define first optical lines, the first optical lines being indexed in a first indexing direction along the optical cable arrangement;
- an indexing terminal disposed at an intermediate location along the optical cable arrangement, the first optical lines of the optical cable arrangement being indexed at the indexing terminal so that at least one of the first optical lines drops off at the indexing terminal, the indexing terminal including a first port, a second port, and a third port, the first optical lines of the optical cable arrangement being received at the first port and being indexed at the second port, and the first optical line that drops off being routed to the third port;
- a splitter terminal disposed external of the indexing terminal, the splitter terminal defining a network output port and a subscriber output port, the splitter terminal including an optical splitter having first outputs directed to the network output port and having an additional output directed to the subscriber output port;
- and
- an output cable defining a drop line that optically couples the first optical line that dropped off at the indexing terminal to an input of the optical splitter at the splitter terminal.
