Abstract
The invention provides an apparatus and a method to monitor fluid loss from one or more casks (2) during a maturation process. The apparatus (1) comprises a multi-pass absorption cell (4) arranged in fluid communication with one or more fluid conduits (5) and a pump (8), and a monitoring system (12). The pump (8) and fluid conduits (5) provide a means for transporting a fluid sample (e.g. a vapour sample) to the multi-pass absorption cell (4). The monitoring system (12) provides a means for detecting and identifying fluid within the multi-pass absorption cell (4).
Claims11
An apparatus to monitor fluid loss from one or more casks during a maturation process, the apparatus comprising a multi-pass absorption cell arranged in fluid communication with one or more fluid conduits and a pump, the pump providing a means for drawing a fluid sample from a distal end of the one or more fluid conduits into the multi-pass absorption cell, wherein the apparatus further comprises a monitoring system to monitor the fluid sample within the multi-pass absorption cell.
A method of monitoring a fluid loss from one or more casks during a maturation process the method comprising:
- providing a multi-pass absorption cell with a vapour sample taken from around the perimeter of the one or more casks;
- and
- monitoring a light field following its propagation through the multi-pass absorption cell.
