Abstract
The invention provides methods and compositions for increasing the strength of a paper sheet. The method involves adding to the paper sheet an amine containing polymer. The amine containing polymer interacts with materials such as GPAM or starch to make the paper stronger in terms including tensile strength, surface strength and bulk strength.
Claims12
A method of strengthening paper, the method comprising the step of contacting a paper sheet in the dry end of a papermaking process with a composition, the composition comprising an amine containing polymer, the amine containing polymer comprises structural units selected from the group consisting of:
- Formula I, salts of Formula I, Formula II, salts of Formula II, Formula III, hydrolyzed forms of III, and any combination thereof, wherein Formulas I, II are according to the structures:
- wherein R can be hydrogen or alkyl;
- R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 are, independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, or alkoxylalkyl.
