Abstract
The invention provides methods for preventing loss and augmenting regeneration of skeletal muscle by decreasing the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system.
Claims19
A method for reducing loss of skeletal muscle in a patient, comprising administering to a patient having a muscle disuse condition or injury, reduced caloric intake, or diabetes a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that decreases the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system so as to reduce the loss of skeletal muscle, wherein the agent is an antibody against Fn14.
A method for reducing loss of force production by skeletal muscle in a patient, comprising administering to a patient having a muscle disuse condition or injury, reduced caloric intake, or diabetes a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that decreases the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system so as to reduce loss of force production by the skeletal muscle, wherein the agent is an antibody against Fn14.
