Abstract
A system and method for conserving vacuum within a vehicle is described. In one example, vacuum is conserved via limiting volume expansion of a brake booster working chamber.

A method for conserving vacuum, comprising:
- limiting volume expansion of a brake booster working chamber in response to a speed of a vehicle.
A system for conserving vacuum, comprising:
- a transmission;
- vehicle brakes;
- a brake pedal;
- a vacuum brake booster coupled to the brake pedal and in communication with the vehicle brakes;
- a master cylinder including a piston, the master cylinder coupled to the vacuum brake booster and in fluidic communication with the vehicle brakes;
- and
- a controller including executable instructions stored in non-transitory memory to limit motion of the piston while the transmission is being shifted and while the brake pedal is applied.
