Abstract
A fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit for the production of hydrocarbon products includes a fluid injection system coupled to a reactor by a standpipe. The fluid injection system includes a plurality of nozzles for injecting oil feedstock into the standpipe to react with a catalyst flowing therethrough.
Claims21
A fluid injection system for a fluid catalytic cracking unit having a cracking standpipe into which feed oil, residual oil, steam and a catalyst are directed at elevated pressure and temperature to crack the oil into constituent portions, the fluid injection system comprising:
- a manifold positioned around the outer periphery of the cracking standpipe, the manifold having inlets and outlets each connected to and continuous with inner passages, wherein each of the inner passages begins with an inlet on an outer peripheral surface of the manifold and terminates with an outlet on an inner peripheral surface of the manifold;
- a plurality of multiflow control blocks each coupled to the plural inlets for directing feed oil, steam, and residual oil through the inner passages in a controlled manner or for diverting feed oil, steam, or residual oil from the inner passages, the multiflow control blocks disposed radially about the outer peripheral surface of the manifold;
- a plurality of mixing chambers disposed radially about the manifold, wherein each of the mixing chambers is coupled to a respective outlet and inner passage combination to the control blocks for feed oil, steam, and residual oil, and adapted to atomize the feed oil and residual oil and mix the atomized feed and residual oil with the steam;
- and
- a plurality of nozzles each coupled to a respective mixing chamber and extending through a respective aperture in the standpipe for directing the feed and residual oil and steam mixture into the standpipe in a controlled manner, wherein the nozzles are arranged in a spaced manner about the circumference of the standpipe.
A nozzle for use in a fluid catalytic cracking unit for directing oil and steam at elevated pressure and temperature into a standpipe for forming hydrocarbon products, the nozzle comprising:
- an elongated member having first and second opposed ends and an inner slot extending along at least a portion of the length of the elongated member;
- a connecting arrangement disposed on the first end of the elongated member for mounting the nozzle in the fluid catalytic cracking unit;
- a first opening disposed on the second end of the elongated member, wherein the first opening forms a discharge end of the inner slot;
- and
- a second opening disposed on the elongated member for receiving and directing oil and steam into the inner slot, wherein the second opening is adapted to receive a shutoff valve for terminating the flow of oil and steam to the inner slot of the elongated member.
A fluid injection system for use with a standpipe of a fluid catalytic cracking unit, the fluid injection system comprising:
- a data collection and control module,
- an injector module having a plurality of nozzles positioned within the standpipe and a manifold positioned around the standpipe and configured to direct fluid inputs provided to the injector module toward the nozzles, the manifold formed to include a flow network therein configured to discretely pass flows of oil and steam through the manifold,
- a plurality of control blocks coupled to the manifold and configured to control a flow of fluid toward the nozzles through the flow network of the manifold, and
- wherein the data collection and control module is configured to provide means for monitoring a flow through the control blocks and for operating the control blocks such that fluid flow through the nozzles is controlled.
A cartridge valve comprising:
- a housing having an axial bore and an annular seat, the housing formed to include a first port formed through the housing and positioned on a first side of the annular seat and a second port formed through the housing and positioned on a second side of the annular seat opposite the first side,
- a first stem having an annular body and a first plug end coupled to a first end of the annular body, a second end of the annular body received in the bore of the housing such that the first plug end is positioned on the first side of the annular seat, the first stem configured to move axially relative to the housing between an open position where the first plug end is spaced apart from the annular seat and a closed position where the first plug end is engaged with and seated against the annular seat to seal an opening through the annular seat, and
- a second stem having a shaft and a second plug end coupled to a first end of the shaft, a second end of the shaft received in the annular body of the first stem such that the second plug end is positioned on the second side of the annular seat, the second stem configured to move axially relative to the housing between an open position where the second plug end is spaced apart from the annular seat and a closed position where the second plug end is engaged with and seated against the annular seat to seal the opening through the annular seat,
- wherein the annular seat is formed to include a bleeder port extending through the housing and configured to provide means for passing a fluid received in the housing through one of the first or second ports out of the housing until at least one of the first and second plug ends is seated against the annular seat.
