Abstract
Various systems and methods for sharing electronic media are disclosed herein. According to particular embodiments, the system enables a user to select media (e.g., an image, a video, a gif, etc.) and compose a phrase to be associated with the media. In some embodiments, the system creates a post from the media and the phrase and enables the user to transmit the post to one or more other users to play (e.g., guess the phrase).
Claims26
A method of playing a computer game on multiple computer devices across a distributed Internet network, the method comprising:
- 1) receiving, by at least one processor at a game server, a shareable media file and a phrase corresponding to the shareable media file from a first instance of a software application downloaded on a computing device associated with a first user, the phrase comprising a plurality of characters;
- 2) storing the shareable media file and the phrase in memory;
- 3) creating a sharable media data object representing the shareable media and a phrase data object representing the phrase, wherein the first instance of the software application enables the first user to select to send the shareable media data object and the phrase data object between the following options:
- a) to a single second instance of the application;
- b) to more than one second instance of the application;
- and c) to many instances of the application;
- 4) transmitting, by at least one processor, the shareable media data object, the phrase data object, and a series of character data objects corresponding to each of the plurality of characters to a more than one second computing devices associated with second users over a distributed Internet network;
- 5) receiving, by at least one processor, a selection of a certain character of a plurality of predefined characters from a particular second computing device of the more than one second computing devices;
- 6) in response to receiving the selection of the certain character from the particular second computing device, comparing the certain character to each of the plurality of characters of the phrase stored in memory for determining whether the plurality of characters comprise the certain character;
- 7) upon determining that the phrase stored in memory comprises the certain character, facilitating display of the certain character in the one or more corresponding blanks on the second computing device;
- 8) upon determining that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character, indicating to the second user that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character;
- and
- 9) repeating steps 5-8 until a) each of the series of blanks displays a corresponding character or b) determining that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character n times.

A system for playing a computer game on multiple computer devices across a distributed Internet network, the system comprising:
- memory for storing:
- i) a plurality of posts of a game, wherein each of the plurality of posts of the game comprises at least one phrase associated with at least one shareable media file;
- and ii) information about a plurality of players of the game, wherein one or more of the plurality of posts are created by at least one player of the game of the plurality of players;
- and
- at least one processor operatively coupled to the memory, the at least one processor configured for:
- 1) receiving a shareable media file from a first instance of an application downloaded on a first computing device associated with a first user to be transmitted to a second instance of the application downloaded to a second computing device associated with a second user;
- 2) transmitting the shareable media file to the second instance of the application downloaded to the second computing device;
- 3) receiving a data object representing a phrase to be combined with the shareable media file from the second instance of the application downloaded to the second computing device, the phrase comprising a plurality of characters;
- 4) creating a post comprising the shareable media file and the data object representing the phrase in memory;
- 5) creating a series of blanks and adding the series of blanks to the post in memory, wherein each of the series of blanks represents a character of the plurality of characters;
- 6) transmitting the post comprising the shareable media, the phrase, and the series of blanks to a third instance of the application downloaded to a third computing device associated with a third user, wherein the third instance of the application is configured for:
- (i) receiving an indication of a certain character of a plurality of predefined characters from the third computing device;
- (ii) in response to receiving the indication of the certain character from the third computing device, comparing the certain character to each of the plurality of characters of the phrase stored in memory for determining whether the plurality of characters comprise the certain character;
- (iii) upon determining that the phrase stored in memory comprises the certain character, displaying the certain character in the one or more corresponding blanks on the third computing device;
- (iv) upon determining that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character, indicating to the third user that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character;
- and
- (v) repeating steps i-iv until a) each of the series of blanks displays a corresponding character on the third computing device or b) determining that the phrase stored in memory does not comprise the certain character n times.

A system for creating and transmitting modified digital media files to one or more computing devices, the system comprising:
- (a) a computer database containing data for:
- 1) a plurality of modified digital media files;
- and 2) a plurality of profiles,
- (i) wherein each of the plurality of modified digital media files is received from an instance of an application downloaded to a mobile device;
- (ii) wherein each of the modified digital media files comprises a digital media file and a string of one or more alphanumeric characters;
- and
- (iii) wherein each profile of the plurality of profiles comprises an indication of the instance of the application downloaded on the mobile device associated with that profile;
- and
- (b) a computer server operatively connected to the computer database, the computer server programmed to:
- (i) receive from a particular instance of the application downloaded to a particular mobile device, an indication to transmit a particular modified digital media file to one or more instances of the application associated with one or more particular profiles, wherein the particular instance of the application is configured for receiving a selection of one instance of the application, one or more instances of the application, and many instances of the application, to which to transmit the particular modified digital media file;
- (ii) in response to receiving the indication to transmit the particular modified digital media file, retrieve the particular modified digital media file for transmission to the one or more instances of the application downloaded on a mobile device;
- (iii) automatically parse the string of one or more alphanumeric characters of the particular modified digital media file;
- (iv) automatically generate a data object corresponding to each of the one or more alphanumeric characters of the particular modified digital media file;
- and
- (v) transmit an instance of the digital media and data objects associated with the particular modified digital media file to each of the one or more instances of the application.

A system for creating and transmitting modified digital media files to one or more computing devices, the system comprising:
- (a) a computer database containing data for:
- 1) a plurality of modified digital media files;
- and 2) a plurality of profiles,
- (i) wherein each of the modified digital media files comprises a digital media file and a string of one or more alphanumeric characters in a particular arrangement;
- (ii) wherein each of the digital media files and strings of one or more alphanumeric characters in the particular arrangement are received from an instance of an application;
- and
- (iii) wherein each profile of the plurality of profiles comprise an indication of the instance of the application downloaded on the mobile device associated with that profile;
- (b) a ranking engine operatively connected to the computer database, the ranking engine for ranking each of the modified digital media files based at least in part on a number of times an indication is received to transmit each of the modified digital media files;
- and
- (c) a computer server operatively connected to:
- 1) the computer database;
- 2) a wireless network for transmitting data to one or more mobile devices;
- and 3) the ranking engine, the computer server programmed to:
- (i) transmit data representing at least a portion of the modified digital media files in a particular order determined by the ranking engine over the wireless network to a particular mobile device associated with a particular instance of the application;
- (ii) receive from the particular instance of the application downloaded to the particular mobile device, over the wireless network, an indication to transmit a particular modified digital media file to the mobile device associated with a particular profile of the plurality of profiles, wherein the particular instance of the application is configured for receiving a selection of one instance of the application, one or more instances of the application, and many instances of the application, to which to transmit the particular modified digital media file;
- (iii) in response to receiving the indication to transmit the particular modified digital media file, retrieve the particular modified digital media file from memory;
- (iv) automatically parse the string of one or more alphanumeric characters of the particular modified digital media file;
- (v) automatically generate a series of data objects corresponding to each of the one or more parsed alphanumeric characters of the particular modified digital media file, the data objects in the particular arrangement;
- and
- (vi) transmit an instance of the digital media and series of data objects associated with the particular modified digital media file over the wireless network to the instance of the application downloaded on the mobile device associated with the particular profile.
