Abstract
A method of conducting a surgical procedure including implanting an anchor into a bone, wherein the anchor comprises a receiving portion and a screw, the screw including a screw head contained within the receiving portion and pivotally engageable with a surface of the receiving portion, and wherein the receiving portion and the screw comprising a different material. The method further includes selecting a rod from a group of rod types and coupling the rod with the receiving portion to stabilize a position of a portion of the spine.

A method comprising:
- implanting an anchor into a bone, wherein the anchor comprises a receiving portion and a screw, the receiving portion comprising a U-shaped implant cavity, the screw comprising a screw head contained within the receiving portion, wherein the anchor is a polyaxial screw that allows the screw to pivot with respect to the receiving portion, and wherein the receiving portion comprises a material having a greater yield strength than a material of the screw;
- selecting a rod from a group of rod types;
- and
- positioning the selected rod within the implant cavity.
A method comprising:
- implanting an anchor into a bone, wherein the anchor comprises a receiving portion and a screw extending along a longitudinal axis between a screw head and a distal tip, the receiving portion comprising a U-shaped implant cavity, the screw head being contained within the receiving portion, wherein the anchor is a polyaxial screw that allows the screw to pivot with respect to the receiving portion 360° about the longitudinal axis, and wherein the receiving portion comprises a first material and the screw comprises a second material that is different than the first material;
- selecting a rod from a group of rod types;
- and
- positioning the selected rod within the implant cavity of the receiving portion.
A method comprising:
- implanting an anchor into a bone, wherein the anchor comprises a receiving portion and a screw extending along a longitudinal axis between a screw head and a distal tip, the receiving portion comprising spaced apart arms that define a U-shaped implant cavity therebetween, the arms each comprising a threaded portion, the receiving portion comprising an inner surface defining a cavity, the screw head and a crown of the anchor being contained within the cavity such that a first portion of the screw head engages the crown and a second portion of the screw head engages the inner surface, wherein the anchor is a polyaxial screw that allows the screw to pivot with respect to the receiving portion 360° about the longitudinal axis, and wherein the receiving portion comprises a first material and the screw comprises a second material that is different than the first material;
- selecting a rod from a group of rod types;
- positioning the selected rod within the implant cavity of the receiving portion;
- and.
- mating threads of a set screw with the threaded portions to engage the set screw with the selected rod and fix the selected rod relative to the receiving portion.
