Abstract
Intra-cell upstream data forwarding can be utilized in a wireless network such as a wireless local area network. A network forwarding path can be determined based on the signal strength of an access point signal received at client stations within the network, referred to as the observed access point signal strength (OASS). In particular embodiments, a station that is either originating or forwarding a frame can insert its own OASS into the frame before transmitting it and a client station that receives a frame can forward it only if its own OASS exceeds the frame-enclosed OASS, by at least a predetermined amount.
Claims19
A method, comprising:
- determining, by a first station device comprising a processor, a signal strength from signal strength data associated with the first station device;
- receiving, by the first station device from a second station device, other signal strength data representative of another signal strength associated with the second station device;
- comparing, by the first station device, the signal strength data to the other signal strength data;
- and
- forwarding, by the first station device, message data to a third station device in response to a determination that the signal strength exceeds the other signal strength.
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
- comparing signal strength data related to a signal strength of a first station device to other signal strength data related to another signal strength of a second station device;
- receiving message data addressed to a third station device;
- and
- forwarding the message data to the third station device in response to a condition associated with the signal strength being determined to have been satisfied.
A machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
- receiving a media access control frame by a first node device from a second node device;
- determining that the first node device is an access point device;
- and
- based on the determining, sending acknowledgement data associated with the media access control frame to the second node device.
