Abstract
Performing detection of a synchronization beacon. The UE may include a first radio which supports, e.g., simultaneously, a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT. The UE may perform transmission according to the first RAT on the first radio with a base station. The UE may receive a request to perform a tune-away to detect a synchronization beacon on the second RAT. The synchronization beacon may repetitively occur in successive first time periods. The UE may repeatedly perform a search for the synchronization beacon in different sub-portions over successive first time periods. The search may be repeatedly performed until the synchronization beacon is located in a respective sub-portion of one of the successive time periods.
Claims20
A method for operating a UE device, the method comprising:
- within a user equipment device (UE) comprising a first radio, wherein the first radio is configurable to operate according to a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT:
- performing communication according to the first RAT on the first radio with a base station, wherein a synchronization beacon is provided on the second RAT, wherein the synchronization beacon repetitively occurs in successive first time periods;
- repeatedly performing a search for the synchronization beacon in different sub-portions of the first time period over successive first time periods using the first radio, wherein the search is repeatedly performed until the synchronization beacon is located in a respective sub-portion of one of the successive time periods.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a processing element comprised in a user equipment device (UE), wherein the processing element is configured to:
- perform communication according to a first radio access technology (RAT) with a base station of the first RAT using a first radio, wherein the first radio is also configured for communication according to a second RAT, wherein a synchronization beacon is provided by a base station of the second RAT, wherein the synchronization beacon repetitively occurs in successive first time periods;
- while performing communication according to the first RAT, repeatedly perform a search for a synchronization beacon for a second RAT in different sub-portions of the first time period over successive first time periods, wherein the search is repeatedly performed until the synchronization beacon is located in a respective sub-portion of one of the successive time periods, wherein the performing the search for the synchronization beacon is performed using the first radio.
A non-transitory, computer accessible memory medium storing program instructions for performing selective measurement within a user equipment device (UE), wherein the UE comprises a first radio for communicating using a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT, wherein the program instructions are executable by a processor to:
- perform first RAT transmission with a first RAT base station using the first radio;
- perform a plurality of second RAT tune-away operations to search for a second RAT synchronization beacon, spread over a first time period, wherein each of the plurality of second RAT tune-away operations is shorter than a standard second RAT tune-away operation for searching for the second RAT synchronization beacon, wherein the first time period is longer than the standard second RAT tune-away operation for searching for the second RAT synchronization beacon.
