Abstract
Systems and methods are described for reducing an interference level associated with frequency drift in a wireless base station. The base station monitors an interference level in a frequency resource caused by a first frequency resource colliding with a second frequency resource. If the interference level is outside of an expected range, the base station adjusts a parameter of the base station such as a reference oscillator frequency to compensate for frequency drift. This method may be used in a femtocell wireless base station.

A base station in a wireless telecommunications network, the base station comprising:
- a radio transmitter that transmits cellular communications to a mobile device using a carrier frequency derived from a reference frequency;
- a radio receiver that receives a first frequency resource from the mobile device;
- and
- a processor that causes the base station to perform the following operations:
- monitoring an interference level of a resource block of the first frequency resource at an edge of the first frequency resource adjacent to a second frequency resource used by a second base station;
- determining whether or not the interference level of the resource block indicates a frequency error;
- and
- adjusting the reference frequency to correct the frequency error when the monitored interference level of the resource block indicates a frequency error.
