Optimally provisioning and merging shared resources to maximize resource availability

A method of managing resources, said method comprising:

• identifying identical memory segments on a plurality of host computers, each identical memory segments being associated with a plurality of instances of resources provisioned on at least two of said plurality of host computers;
• and
• migrating provisioned resources for at least one of said plurality of instances from one of said at least two to another of said at least two, the migrated provisioned resources sharing respective said identical memory segments with resources previously provisioned on the other host computer.

A computer program product for managing cloud environment resources, said computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having computer readable program code stored thereon, said computer readable program code causing computers executing said code to:

• identify identical memory segments on a plurality of host computers, each identical memory segments being associated with a plurality of instances of resources provisioned on at least two of said plurality of host computers;
• and
• migrate provisioned resources for at least one of said plurality of instances from one of said at least two to another of said at least two, the migrated provisioned resources sharing respective said identical memory segments with resources previously provisioned on the other host computer.
