A method of adjusting a frequency of an internal clock of a network receiver for a network using distributed clock synchronization, the method comprises:
- generating a clock signal;
- receiving a signal from the network, the signal representing a series of bits;
- comparing a length of a first time period lapsed while receiving at least five consecutive bits of the signal with a length of an internal clock interval being a sub-interval of the clock signal and representing the same number of bits as a number of bits of the first time period to determine a difference between the lengths of the first time period and of the internal clock time interval;
- adjusting a frequency of the generated clock signal in dependence of a result of the comparison of the lengths of first time period and the internal clock interval to reduce the difference between the lengths of the first time period and the internal clock interval.
