Abstract
A power amplifier (PA) system is provided for multi-mode multi-band operations. The PA system includes one or more amplifying modules, each amplifying module including one or more banks, each bank comprising one or more transistors; and a plurality of matching modules, each matching module being configured to be adjusted to provide impedances corresponding to frequency bands and conditions. A controller dynamically controls an input terminal of each bank and adjusts the matching modules to provide a signal path to meet specifications on properties associated with signals during each time interval.
Claims24
A communication system configured to operate for a plurality of modes and a plurality of frequency bands, comprising:
- an antenna configured to receive (Rx) signals or transmit out transmit (Tx) signals in a mode selected from the plurality of modes and in a frequency band selected from the plurality of frequency bands during a time interval;
- a switch coupled to the antenna;
- an input port for inputting the Tx signals;
- an output port for outputting the Rx signals;
- a Tx section coupled to the input port and the switch, the Tx section being configured to receive the Tx signals from the input port, process the Tx signals and send the Tx signals to the switch, the Tx section comprising a PA system that is configured to amplify the Tx signals;
- an Rx section coupled to the output port and the switch, the Rx section being configured to receive the Rx signals from the switch, process the Rx signals and send the Rx signals to the output port;
- and
- a controller coupled to the Tx section and the antenna through a bidirectional control line, the controller being configured to receive information on the Tx signals and conditions and to control the Tx section to process the Tx signals corresponding to the frequency band, the mode and the conditions during the time interval, wherein the controller controls the Tx section variably with time as the information varies to meet specifications on properties associated with the Tx signals during each time interval.
A transmit (Tx) system configured to operate for a plurality of modes and for a plurality of frequency bands, comprising:
- a plurality of input ports for inputting signals;
- a plurality of Tx modules coupled to the plurality of input ports, respectively, each of the plurality of Tx modules comprising a PA system and a filter system;
- and
- a controller coupled to each of the plurality of Tx modules through a bidirectional control line;
- wherein
- the controller is configured to receive information on the signals and conditions and to control each of the plurality of Tx modules to process the signals corresponding to a frequency band selected from the plurality of frequency bands, a mode selected from the plurality of modes and the conditions during a time interval, wherein the controller controls each of the plurality of Tx modules variably with time as the information varies to meet specifications on properties associated with the signals during each time interval.
