Overcurrent recovery in flybuck converters

An isolated buck converter apparatus, comprising:

• a first output capacitor;
• a first charging path connected to said first output capacitor for charging said first output capacitor, said first charging path including a first switch;
• a discharge path connected to said first output capacitor for discharging said first output capacitor, said discharge path including a second switch;
• control logic coupled to said first and second switches and configured to open and close said first and second switches, said control logic configured to selectively close said first switch to charge said first output capacitor, and to selectively close said second switch to discharge said first output capacitor;
• a second output capacitor;
• a second charging path connected to said second output capacitor for charging said second output capacitor, said second charging path inductively coupled to said discharge path to permit charge transfer from said first output capacitor to said second output capacitor when said discharge path discharges said first output capacitor;
• and
• a current limit detector coupled to said discharge path for detecting a current limit condition in said second switch;
• wherein said detecting occurs while said first switch is open, after said first switch has previously been closed to charge said first output capacitor, and while said second switch is closed to discharge said first output capacitor and transfer charge to said second output capacitor;
• and
• wherein said control logic is coupled to said current limit detector and responsive to said detecting for
• opening said second switch, and thereafter
• closing said second switch again before closing said first switch again, thereby to resume transfer of charge from said first output capacitor to said second output capacitor.
