Abstract
Remote font management techniques are described. In one or more implementations, one or more layout tables are obtained, located remotely via a network by a computing device, that correspond to a font associated with a request to output text using the font. A layout and glyph dependencies of the text is generated by the computing device using the obtained one or more layout tables to identify glyphs that are involved in an output of the text. The identified glyphs are obtained by the computing device from a font file located remotely from the computing device via the network and the text is rendered by the computing device using the obtained glyphs.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- obtaining one or more layout tables, located remotely via a network by a computing device, that correspond to a font associated with a request to output text using the font;
- generating a layout and glyph dependencies of the text by the computing device using the obtained one or more layout tables to identify glyphs that are involved in an output of the text;
- obtaining the identified glyphs by the computing device from a font file located remotely from the computing device via the network;
- and
- rendering the text by the computing device using the obtained glyphs.
A method comprising:
- obtaining data by a computing device related to a request regarding a first font from a first font file, the first font file accessible remotely by the computing device via a network and the request involving a display of text;
- selecting a second font by the computing device having at least portions of a corresponding second font file stored locally at the computing device that are usable as a substitution for the data of the requested first font;
- rendering the text in the selected second font using the portions of the corresponding second font file during at least a portion of a period of time during which the data obtained remotely by the computing device is not available locally for rendering of the text;
- and
- responsive to accessibility of the obtained data locally at the computing device to render the text, rendering the text using the obtained data.
A system comprising:
- one or more modules implemented at least partially in hardware, the one or more modules configured to perform operations comprising:
- obtaining one or more layout tables, located remotely via a network, that correspond to a font associated with a request to output text using the font;
- generating a layout and glyph dependencies of the text using the obtained one or more layout tables to identify glyphs that are involved in an output of the text;
- responsive to the generating, obtaining the identified glyphs from a font file located remotely from the computing device via the network;
- and
- rendering the text using the obtained glyphs.
