Abstract
Positional input systems and methods are provided. A positional input method can include passing (210) a polarized light generated by a source through a predetermined pattern of visibly transparent polarizing elements disposed on the surface of a display device. The method further includes detecting (220) a change in the polarization state of the polarized light corresponding to a location on the display device.
Claims15
A positional method, comprising:
- passing a polarized light generated by a source through a visibly masked programmable phase retarder film disposed on a surface to change the polarization state of the polarized light;
- and
- detecting the change in the polarization state of the polarized light corresponding to a location on the surface.
A positional system, comprising:
- a visibly masked programmable phase retarder film to provide a pattern of visibly transparent polarizing elements to change the polarization state of polarized light;
- and
- a detector to determine a location based upon the change in the polarization state of the polarized light.
A positional system, comprising:
- a display including a linearly polarized light source;
- a plurality of visibly transparent polarizing elements disposed in a pattern on a surface of the display;
- wherein the visibly transparent polarizing elements are to change the polarization state of the linear polarized light;
- and
- a member including a detector to determine a location on the display based upon the change in the polarization state of the linear polarized light.
