Abstract
A flange to be assembled to a duct member includes a plurality of pre-fabricated apertures or areas of weakened wall strength for receiving fasteners to assemble the flange to the end of a duct member. The apertures may be spaced apart such that the fasteners can be inserted at regular intervals along the length of the flange and the length of the end of the duct member.
Claims9
A flange for a duct member panel, comprising:
- a first wall member;
- a second wall member, which wall members are configured to receive the duct member panel there between;
- an intermediate member connected to the inner and outer wall members, which intermediate member includes a rib disposed proximate the inner wall member;
- and
- a plurality of first apertures disposed in the first wall member, and a plurality of second apertures disposed in the second wall member, wherein the first apertures are substantially aligned with the second apertures.

A method for manufacturing a duct member panel flange, comprising:
- forming a flange to have a first wall member, a second wall member, which wall members are configured to receive the duct member panel there between, and an intermediate member connected to the first and second wall members, which intermediate member includes a rib, which rib is separated from the inner wall member by a distance substantially equal to a thickness of a duct member panel;
- forming a plurality of pre-fabricated first apertures within the first wall member;
- and
- forming a plurality of pre-fabricated second apertures disposed in the second wall member, wherein the pre-fabricated first apertures are substantially aligned with the pre-fabricated second apertures.

A method for attaching a first duct member to a second duct member, comprising:
- providing a plurality of flanges, each having a first wall member, a second wall member, an intermediate member connected to the first and second wall members, which intermediate member includes a rib separated from the inner wall by a distance substantially equal to a thickness of a portion of the respective duct member, a plurality of pre-fabricated first apertures disposed in the first wall member, a plurality of pre-fabricated second apertures disposed in the second wall member, wherein the pre-fabricated first apertures are substantially aligned with the pre-fabricated second apertures;
- mounting a first one of the flanges on the first duct member, such that a portion of the first duct member is disposed between the inner and outer wall members of the first flange, and passing a portion of a self-tapping screw fastener through one of the pre-fabricated first apertures of the first flange, tapping through the portion of the first duct member with the screw fastener, and engaging a portion of the screw fastener with a respective aligned pre-fabricated second aperture of the first flange;
- mounting a second one of the flanges on the second duct member, such that a portion of the second duct member is disposed between the inner and outer wall members of the second flange, and passing a portion of a self-tapping screw fastener through one of the pre-fabricated first apertures of the second flange, tapping through the portion of the second duct member with the screw fastener, and engaging a portion of the screw fastener with a respective aligned pre-fabricated second aperture of the second flange;
- and
- attaching the first and second duct members together by attaching the first and second flanges together.
