Abstract
An obstruction device includes an obstruction disc mounted on a shaft. The disc includes a membrane attached to a peripheral frame. An anchoring member extends from a distal portion of the shaft. The shaft, anchoring member and peripheral frame together have a unitary construction made from a bent slender element.
Claims11
An obstruction device comprising:
- an obstruction disc mounted on a shaft, said disc comprising a membrane attached to a peripheral frame;
- and
- an anchoring member extending from a distal portion of said shaft, wherein said shaft is bent at a central bend point to form an arm that extends radially outwards from a central axis and which is then curved circumferentially about the central axis to form said peripheral frame.
(canceled)
A method comprising:
- loading a delivery tube containing a flattened obstruction device in an endoscope tool, said obstruction device comprising:
- an obstruction disc mounted on a shaft, said disc comprising a membrane attached to a peripheral frame, and an anchoring member extending from a distal portion of said shaft, wherein said shaft is bent at a central bend point to form an arm that extends radially outwards from a central axis and which is then curved circumferentially about the central axis to form said peripheral frame;
- using said endoscope tool to deliver said delivery tube to a proximal side of a pylorus;
- moving said endoscope tool further distally so that a distal end of said delivery tube extends into the pylorus;
- pushing said anchoring member distally out of said delivery tube, whereupon said anchoring member springs out and is deployed distally of the pylorus in a duodenum;
- releasing said obstruction disc from said delivery tube, whereupon said obstruction disc springs out and is deployed proximally of the pylorus and said shaft serves as a spacer in the pylorus between said obstruction disc and said anchoring member;
- and
- removing said delivery tube and said endoscope tool.
