System and method for generating three-dimensional models in a product management application

A method for generating a visual representation on-demand in a product management system, the method comprising:

• electronically creating and storing one or more instance objects in the product management system;
• electronically mapping the one or more instance objects to function information in the product management system;
• electronically receiving, via a network portal, user input regarding a selection of one or more functions representing product information from the product management system;
• and,
• electronically generating and providing the visual representation on-demand to a user based on the mapped instance objects and the user input.

A system for generating a three-dimensional (3D) assembly on-demand in a product management system, the system comprising:

• a computer module communicatively configured with a network-based portal, the computer module configured to perform one or more operations, the operations comprising:
• electronically creating and storing one or more instance objects in the product management system,
• electronically mapping the one or more instance objects to function information in the product management system,
• electronically receiving, via the network portal, user input regarding a selection of one or more functions representing product information from the product management system, and
• electronically generating a 3D assembly based on one or more of the mapped instance objects and the user input.
