Abstract
A door system designed for buildings that store large objects such as airplanes or farm, marine, and other heavy equipment. The door system is comprised of a door, a lift frame, and a brake system disposed within the lift frame and coupled with the door. Furthermore, an articulating arm system connects to the lift frame and the door and a drive system connects to the brake system. The drive system moves the brake system within the lift frame such that the brake system and the articulating arm system guide the door between an open and a closed position.
Claims17
A door system, comprising:
- a door;
- a lift frame;
- a brake system disposed within the lift frame and coupled with the door;
- an articulating arm system connected to the lift frame and the door;
- and
- a drive system connected to the brake system wherein the drive system moves the brake system within the lift frame such that the brake system and the articulating arm system guide the door between an open and a closed position.
A method of moving a door between closed and open positions, comprising:
- providing a door;
- providing a lift frame comprised of first and second guide columns with a header therebetween;
- providing a first brake assembly disposed within the first guide column and coupled with the door;
- providing a second brake assembly disposed within the second guide column and coupled with the door;
- providing a driver coupled with the header and movable between first and second positions, wherein a first cable secured with the driver couples the driver with the first brake assembly and a second cable secured with the driver couples the driver at a second brake assembly;
- moving the driver to the first position such that the driver simultaneously acts upon the first cable and the second cable to lift the first and second brake assemblies, wherein the door first rises vertically then rotates away from the lift frame thereby opening the door;
- and
- moving the driver to the second position such that the driver simultaneously acts upon the first cable and the second cable to lower the first and second brake assemblies, wherein the door first rotates toward the lift frame and then lowers vertically thereby closing the door.
