- one or more liquid terpenes, limonene, carvone, pinene, pine needle oil, citral, orange oil, dodecane, decane, undecane, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, and combinations thereof.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the refresh agent has an evaporation rate of about 0.1 mg/min to about 8 mg/min.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the refresh agent has a viscosity at 25° C. of about 0.0001 to about 100 cP.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the refresh agent is essentially free of volatile solvent.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the flash point of the refresh agent is about 30° C. to about 100° C.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the refresh agent is selected from the group consisting of:
- orange oil, pinene, dodecane, limonene, and pine needle oil.
The coated rubber composition of claim 1, wherein the refresh agent consists essentially of a liquid selected from the group consisting of:
- one or more terpenes, limonene, carvone, pinene, pine needle oil, citral, orange oil, dodecane, decane, undecane, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, and combinations thereof.
An article of manufacture comprising:
- a first uncured rubber component comprising an elastomer selected from the group consisting of:
- polychloroprene, butyl rubber, hevea and non-hevea natural rubber, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, nitrile rubber, poly(isoprene-styrene), poly(isoprene-butadiene), poly(styrene-butadiene), terpolymers of isoprene, styrene, and butadiene, and combinations thereof;
- the first uncured rubber component including a first coated surface, the first coated surface coated with an organic liquid having the following characteristics:
- an evaporation rate of about 0.1 mg/min to about 8 mg/min;
- and
- a flash point of about 30° C. to about 100° C.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, wherein the organic liquid has a viscosity at 25° C. of about 0.0001 to about 100 cP.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, wherein the organic liquid is selected from the group consisting of:
- one or more terpenes, limonene, carvone, pinene, pine needle oil, citral, orange oil, dodecane, decane, undecane, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, and combinations thereof.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, further comprising:
- a second uncured rubber component comprising an elastomer selected from the group consisting of:
- polychloroprene, butyl rubber, hevea and non-hevea natural rubber, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, nitrile rubber, poly(isoprene-styrene), poly(isoprene-butadiene), poly(styrene-butadiene), terpolymers of isoprene, styrene, and butadiene, and combinations thereof;
- the second uncured rubber component being joined to the first coated surface of the uncured rubber component at an interface.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, wherein the first coated surface is joined to an overlapping or butt-end portion of the first uncured rubber component.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, further comprising a second uncured rubber component comprising an elastomer selected from the group consisting of:
- polychloroprene, butyl rubber, hevea and non-hevea natural rubber, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, nitrile rubber, poly(isoprene-styrene), poly(isoprene-butadiene), poly(styrene-butadiene), terpolymers of isoprene, styrene, and butadiene, and combinations thereof;
- the second uncured rubber component including a second coated surface, the second coated surface comprising an organic liquid selected from the group consisting of:
- one or more terpenes, polylimonene, limonene, carvone, α-pinene, pine needle oil, citral, orange oil, dodecane, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, borneol, camphor, guayule resin, and combinations thereof;
- the second coated surface of the second uncured rubber component being joined to the first coated surface of the first uncured rubber component at an interface.
The article of manufacture of claim 8, wherein the article is a rubber air spring or a tire component.
A method comprising the steps of:
- applying a refresh agent to a surface of a first uncured rubber component, the refresh agent being selected from the group consisting of:
- one or more liquid terpenes, limonene, carvone, pinene, pine needle oil, citral, orange oil, dodecane, decane, undecane, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, and combinations thereof, thereby forming a first coated surface;
