A method of reducing or preventing resin show-through in painted wood, the method comprising impregnating wood with one or more autoxidative catalysts before application of a primer coating to the wood, the one or more autoxidative catalysts comprising one or more metal compounds selected from one or more cobalt compounds, one or more manganese compounds, one or more cerium compounds, one or more vanadium compounds, or a combination of any two or more thereof.
