Abstract
Systems and methods for a glass-ceramic barrier coating are provided. In certain embodiments, a sensor comprises a sensor body, the sensor body enclosing a desired environment within a volume, wherein the sensor body is fabricated from a glass-ceramic; and a barrier coating formed on at least one surface of the sensor body, wherein the barrier coating vacuum seals the desired environment within the volume from an environment external to the volume.
Claims20
A sensor, the sensor comprising:
- a sensor body, the sensor body enclosing a desired environment within a volume, wherein the sensor body is fabricated from a glass-ceramic;
- and
- a barrier coating formed on at least one surface of the sensor body, wherein the barrier coating vacuum seals the desired environment within the volume from an environment external to the volume.
A method for fabricating a sensor, the method comprising:
- fabricating a sensor body from a glass-ceramic, the sensor body enclosing a desired environment within a volume;
- applying a barrier coating to the sensor body, wherein the barrier coating coats at least one surface of the sensor body;
- and
- vacuum sealing the desired environment within the volume, wherein the barrier coating vacuum seals the desired environment within the volume from an environment external to the volume.
A sensing apparatus, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor body, the sensor body enclosing a desired environment within a volume, wherein the sensor body is fabricated from a glass-ceramic, wherein the sensor body comprises one or more openings;
- a barrier coating formed on the at least one surface of the sensor body, wherein the barrier coating vacuum seals the desired environment within the volume from an environment external to the volume;
- and
- one or more optical components mounted over the one or more openings such that the one or more optical components vacuum seal the desired environment within the volume, wherein the one or more optical components allow at least one light beam to enter the volume.
